Okay we all know by now that Sony has been hacked, by a group called 'Anonymous' (Anons, 4Chan.)This has caused Sony to shut down Playstation Network and Qriocity to strengthen Sony's system. Unfortunately, the intrusion has caused information that you have entered into Playstation to be seen by the intruders, including your credit/debit card information if you have entered it.
There is some good news. Sony has confirmed an estimated time when all features will be back online. ''we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday.''- Sony on 27th April.Sony has said that there will be some sort of compensation for the time that it has been down. Sony said ''We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.''
There is a bit of luck for the MMO players. to people who have a subscription to MMO's DC Universe and Free Realms:'' we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio.'' They thanks the players for their patients. Many people may be asking more about the situation, in particular, credit card info. This may/will relieve alot of people. Sony has said that their credit card data was encrypted and there is no evidence of the credit card data being taken and has also said to take in mind that sony did not ask for your security number (sometimes called CVS or CSC) when joining playstation network. but sony do warn you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
Sony has set out the following to help protect your personal data:
''For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well. To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports.''
